Carolyn Pavey
Carolyn Pavey was born in 1956 and graduated from Brighton College of Art. While it was Impressionists that stimulated her interest in the sky, her illustration training has been equally influential on her work. An emphasis on the importance of drawing means she rarely leaves home without a sketchbook. She taught art and worked as an illustrator prior to turning professional.
Carolyn’s paintings are about space; the vastness of the sky and human activity below, the changing weather and how it affects light and atmosphere. The landscape and coastline of the Isle of Wight and southern Europe are continual sources of inspiration for Carolyn in her exploration of the marks left by man, the tyre tracks of a tractor or the abandoned posts of an old jetty, being examples of subjects that may punctuate her work.
Carolyn has exhibited at the Royal Watercolour Society and the Royal Academy. Her work hangs in the Bodleian Library, Oxford University and makes up part of many other private collections worldwide.
